Data & scale

Store EAM state in the database. Add optional services where they help.

Maintra stores EAM records, audit, idempotency receipts, background job claims and workflow state in the database. API, worker and database capacity can be scaled independently. Redis remains optional.

Reference topology

The database stores transactional state.

API containers and workers commit business changes, receipts and audit records through the database. Caches and edge services can reduce selected read or coordination workloads.

Transactional state

Commit each work change with its audit evidence.

Work status changes, material activity, approvals, action receipts and audit records commit inside the same database transaction. This avoids partial writes across separate durable stores.

  • Relational constraints for connected maintenance records
  • Atomic mutations for retry-sensitive writes
  • Alembic migrations for repeatable schema promotion

Database reads

Keep search, filtering and pagination on the server.

Server-backed search, filters and paginated projections prevent browsers and mobile clients from loading entire record sets. Database extensions and indexes are applied where query evidence shows a benefit.

  • Indexed lookup and trigram-assisted search where configured
  • Pagination, filters and purpose-built projections
  • Slow-query visibility and statement timeouts as deployment controls

Connection planning

Plan application replicas against database capacity.

Each API process has a defined connection pool and overflow limit. The capacity plan accounts for every API and worker replica before adding pooling proxies, read projections or database replicas.

  • Pre-ping, recycle and pool timeout controls
  • A visible per-process connection budget
  • Independent database compute, storage and high-availability choices

Optional Redis

Add Redis only for a defined workload.

The database stores workflow state and durable background job claims. Redis can serve selected caching, rate-limiting or ephemeral coordination needs when tests show enough benefit to justify another service.

  • Database-backed durable job claims and fencing
  • External workers that can stop and resume safely
  • Optional cache invalidation scoped away from transactional truth

Implementation constraint

Validate scale against representative workloads.

API containers and workers can scale horizontally while the database scales through compute, storage, pooling, indexes, replicas and availability controls. A million-request target still needs a defined time window, record volume, query mix, write contention and attachment profile before it becomes a testable requirement.
